How does the treatment work?
The laser treatment works by emitting a selected amount of light energy that is selected specifically to pick up any brown lesions (sun damage, freckling, discolouration etc) and or any red lesions (broken veins, thread veins, redness or rosacea). As the heat is emitted it tightens your skin and stimulates collagen and elastin while also reducing any open pores.
The hand piece is designed to recycle any energy that left the skin so that no energy is lost and you get the maximum result out of your treatment. The hand piece also has a constant cooling tip to aid comfort throughout the procedure.
After your treatment some of the targets such as the spots or broken veins may appear worse as the laser is bringing out the skin concerns. After about 10 to 14 days this fades and your skin starts to look smoother and clearer.
Is it safe?
The Palomar laser treatment is fast, safe and, with improved contact skin cooling, offers a more comfortable treatment with minimal downtime compared to other facial laser treatments.
Is it suitable for all skin types?
This treatment is only suitable for skin types 1 to 3 and light skin type 4. If you’re not sure what skin type you are please call us for a consultation. And we will have alternative treatment options for you as well.
Does it hurt?
The treatment does feel quite warm, which can last a few hours. We recommend you to apply cool packs after the treatment to help your skin cool down.
How long will my skin stay red?
Your skin may feel a little sore and stay red for a few hours. You could also get some swelling around the eyes and on the cheeks, which can last a few days.
Will I need a patch test?
Yes, you will need a patch test 48 hours before your first treatment.
Can I go into the sun?
For best results, we advise you to avoid the sun. If you have a slight tan we cannot treat you for at least 6 weeks from the last day of sun exposure. At this point a new skin test will be carried out 48 hours before your treatment could resume.
Can I combine with any other treatments?
The treatment itself is very effective, though you could add a peel to enhance the results and target more specific concerns such as acne and rosacea.
