Keratosis pilaris

We can help to reduce or remove the appearance of keratosis pilaris

Keratosis pilaris

If you have

  • small pimples like permanent goose bumps on the back of your arms and legs or bottom, or other places on your body
  • and those pimples are red and sometimes itchy

then you may have a condition called keratosis pilaris.

Although the condition is harmless, we offer a range of treatments and products to reduce or remove the appearance of keratosis pilaris – and especially, to help you feel less self-conscious about that part of your skin.

About keratosis pilaris

What is keratosis pilaris?

Keratosis pilaris is a common and harmless skin condition that is caused by a build-up of keratin, a protein found in the outer layer of the skin. The excess keratin blocks the openings of the hair follicles, causing small red, white or pale brown bumps to appear (which some people call ‘chicken skin’).

These bumps or pimples are usually on the back of the upper arms, thighs and buttocks, and occasionally on the forearms or upper back, but in rare cases can be on other areas of the body including the face, eyebrows and scalp.

It’s often associated with other dry skin conditions, and may appear worse in colder weather. For some people the bumps or pimples become inflamed and itchy.

Treatments for keratosis pilaris

At Skin Perfection, we offer the following treatments for reducing or removing the appearance of keratosis pilaris.

Laser hair removal - fast, effective and comfortable laser treatment that kills the root of the problem first; suitable for even fine face and body hair, and for all skin types.

Medical microdermabrasion - a fast and effective treatment for acne and keratosis pilaris that uses a non-surgical but deep-penetrating resurfacing procedure to clean blocked or congested pores; tailored to your skin condition and with little downtime. This is a more effective treatment than ordinary, salon-grade micro-dermabrasion (hence the word ‘medical’) as the crystals used are aluminium oxide and sapphire-shaped, which means they hit the skin at every angle. Unlike many clinics or medi-spas, we only use sterile disposable tips, one for each patient and we never use the same tip for anyone else.
